Course Philosophy

With the increasingly complex social and environmental issues we face today, it is no longer enough to obtain a university degree with some practical experience and be ready for a career in the real world. On top of valuable tertiary education, individuals have to be passionate and inspired in the workplace, they have to have critical problem solving skills and want to put those skills to work for the betterment of society and the future.

We believe that the next generation of environmental and science practitioners must be motivated, conscious and engaged. This requires more than just teaching concepts in a classroom. It requires getting students to think about their visions, their values, their purpose and their actions.

Our guiding principle is a holistic approach to curriculum design; leadership requires development of both cognitive and practical skills as well as inter- and intra-personal skills. We achieve this by balancing instruction and constructive discovery learning, through research and problem-solving all supported with close tuition. The overall outcome for any beneficiary is to be more confident, driven, and developed as a professional with improved capacity for lifelong and lifewide learning.

Our Courses curricula are informed and designed largely using two paradigms

  1. 21st century Science Skills
  2.  Head Heart and Hands Model

Following the recent report of the National Research Council, 21st Century Skills have three principal clusters of competences, i.e.: These competencies are achieved through various forms of tuition including but not limited to: lectures, field based activities, independent research, reflection sessions, workshops, leadership discussions and activities, team-building exercises and group assignments.
